Project Management and Curriculum Development

University of Texas at Austin
January - May 2018

I worked with fellow master's student Carrie Cruce to develop an online undergraduate course for incoming freshmen students.

We analyzed and gathered data from a survey administered to over 150 students in iSchool undergraduate courses to identify student pain-points.

In order to make this course more interactive for students, Carrie and I implemented techniques and tools such as:

- Screencast lectures and Prezi presentations
- A graphic syllabus and course orientation infographics
- Threshold concepts
- The ACRL Framework
- Backwards design
- Team based learning

While working in the IT Lab, I coordinated the efforts of a group of eight master's students over the course of six months to create, update, research, and organize course content for iSchool undergraduate course INF 304D: Introduction to Information Studies.

The course is an introduction for undergraduates in our minor, and covers a rotating list of information-based fields, including User-experience and design (UX), Human-computer interaction (HCI), Archives, Libraries, Crowdsourcing, and more. Team members conducted research to find the best reading and media materials for students, created written content and assignments, and organized and created video content from iSchool instructors and the Career Center in order to provide students with a variety of media and resources. The new iteration of this course was taught Summer 2017 and continues to undergo development.

In Summer of 2017 I worked with Dr. Philip Doty, Associate Dean of the School of Information, to create a research paper detailing the process and reviewing literature in the field regarding collaborative course development. I plan to continue studying collaborative knowledge creation, the optimization of online education, and methods instructors may use to create learning communities among their students in online environments.
